TRENTON - A 2-year-old girl is at a Philadelphia hospital suffering from head injuries caused by apparently falling from the window of a Perry Street home early Monday, Trenton police said Monday evening.

Trenton police, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office and child protective authorities from the state's Department of Children and Families are investigating the incident.

The girl's identity was not made public.

Police spokesman Lt. Stephen Varn said the incident was reported to police at about 1:15 a.m. Monday.

The child reportedly fell asleep with family members Sunday to Monday, and at some point in the night awoke and could not find the girl, Varn said.

While looking around the home for the girl, a neighbor knocked on their door and said the girl was on the sidewalk, Varn said.

A Trenton EMS ambulance took the child to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. The girl was then transported to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Varn said.

The girl suffered bleeding on the brain and a skull fracture, Varn said.

No other details of the incident were made public by police.
